Issues related to further customer servicing in Crimea, as well as bank property in the occupied territory, remain essential as before. This was stated by the banker, speaking during a roundtable "Doing business and property in Crimea: Legal aspects and new protection instruments", which was held on 9 October, 2014 in Kiev and became a platform to discuss ways out of the situation that occurred for the Ukrainian business in Crimea and to find the most effective models for its further development in the current environment.
According to Ms.Golanova, in accordance with the Resolution of the NBU №260 on 6 May, 2014 activity of the Ukrainian banks in Crimea was suspended, however, issues related to the further customer servicing and the bank's own assets in Crimea remain relevant as ever. In particular, the procedures of the bank if the depositor applied to the Russian Foundation for protection of depositors, as well as the issues of the clients rights who do not have opportunity to come to the mainland of Ukraine.
"Piraeus Bank is guided by the principles of full commitments towards customers and depositors of the bank. However, the normative field does not solve all practical issues and requires additional regulation and support of the National Bank of Ukraine", – said Diana Golanova, deputy director of the legal department of Piraeus Bank.
During the roundtable members discussed the protection of the interests of the Ukrainian banks in the temporarily occupied territory; free economic zone in Crimea; consequences of the legal status change of the property to the state of Ukraine and individuals; registration of rights for the immovable property in the territory of Crimea; special aspects of civil disputes settlement with the Crimean defendants; international protection of Ukrainian assets in Crimea.
Particular attention gain session, during which arose questions on the protection of the interests of the Ukrainian banks in the temporarily occupied territory, in particular: opportunities for Ukrainian banks to recover previously granted loans from the Crimean companies; responsibility of the Crimean borrowers to Ukrainian banks; how the banks work with the Crimean depositors.
